Capital cities' Christmas outlook

Josh Fisher
Compared to the active weather that has taken place in December, from record rain to severe storms, Christmas conditions are expected to be calm across most capital cities. If you are looking for sunshine and warm temperatures, Perth and Adelaide are top on the list. Both cities can expect sunny skies with maximum temperatures around 34 degrees. Sunny skies will be the main feature right across the south. Hobart and Melbourne will soak in the sun, with temperatures reaching 20 and 27 degrees respectively. For Canberra, the maximum will reach a warm 28 degrees but partly cloudy skies may allow a shower or two to develop. Sydney should see an early shower or two before partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 27 degrees. Scattered showers will linger in through the day in Brisbane, but should generally be light and brief. Over northern Australia, the monsoon trough should still be dominating the weather conditions, so Darwin can expect scattered thundery showers. On Boxing Day, a cooler showery change may affect the southeast, while remaining cities can expect a similar day.
